"St Peter's Chapel"

St Peter's Chapel, by Phillip Gibbs

Artist's Notes

"This ancient Saxon chapel was one of the first christian churches in the region and was built on high ground in Heysham village with a view over the sands of Morecambe Bay. It has been replaced by St Peter's Church only a few hundred feet away but lends important clues to ancient construction techniques. The arch above the door is famous and highly significant and therefore a prime candidate for my photographic attentions. I broke a few compositional rules here, but in doing so have achieved the desired result - a plain foreground pushes the viewers eye back to the subject which successfully holds the viewers attention, despite the shallow depth of field."
